It’s amazing the lies we let Satan persuade us of on a daily basis.
We are constantly surrounded by the input of the world through television, movies, books, magazines, news, friends, and family. And, if we aren’t careful, the things we surround ourselves with can allow Satan to plant seeds of doubt and negativity in our minds and hearts.
He’s waiting to tell you lies about your body as you look at pictures and videos of models who barely eat and spend every waking hour applying makeup or working out. The lies tell you that you are ugly, fat, and as boring as it gets.
The news is filled with stories of horrendous events and politics corrupt enough to make a pig pen look clean. Reporters focus on stories of abuse, murder, and terrorism. They tell us of a world without hope.
Perhaps your friends influence you to follow the way of the world instead of God’s path. Soon, you find yourself hanging out in places and doing things you never dreamed you would do. All the while, Satan is whispering in your ear that it’s not that bad.
It could be as simple as a teething baby refusing to sleep. Satan deceives us into thinking we’ll never sleep again. This is our life now. We’re exhausted, which causes us to slack on taking care of ourselves and possibly become envious of our well-rested husband. By the time the kids are in bed, we’re too tired to put in any quality time for us. Our tired minds allow the negatives to become insurmountable mountains and we just want to give up.
The lies go on and on.
We’re not good enough. There’s never going to be enough time in the day. The world is a place full of evil. We can’t accomplish our goals.
But what if God is calling you to something bigger than yourself and you refuse to take a chance because you’re afraid? You doubt if you are the right one for the job. There are far better people out there than you. If you try, you’ll fail.
Stop listening to the lies.
I’ve been where you are. If you give Satan an inch, he’ll take a mile. Once you start nurturing the seed of doubt Satan has planted, it begins to grow. Before you know it, there is an entire unruly garden filled with depression, anxiety, self-hate, and fear. He’ll drag you down and keep you there.
The Bible refers to Satan as a thief and it’s absolutely right! He is here to steal your joy and hope. The last thing he wants you doing is the Lord’s work. He wants you defeated.
But we have a God who is bigger than the lies.
Our God is not only bigger than the lies. He’s bigger than Satan. He’s bigger than the lowest valleys of our lives. God loves us despite our insecurities, weaknesses, and mistakes. It is only with God’s help that we can rise above.
The only way to block out Satan’s lies is to saturate our lives in God’s truths:
Nothing can separate us from God’s unconditional love.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
God has forgiven our past, present, and future sins.
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” -Psalms 103:12 (NIV)
Even at our weakest, we are strong with God.
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” -2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NIV)
God will defeat Satan once and for all.
“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.” -Romans 16:20 (NIV)
Listen to God.
Stop listening to the voice of doubt and negativity in your head. Instead, focus on God. Turn Satan’s lies into God’s truth:
- You are beautiful just the way you are.
- God loves you.
- God can give you the strength to accomplish your goals.
- There is no one else like you. You were made for a purpose and you will accomplish what God has designed you to do.
Today, choose truth, happiness, and comfort. Choose to love the person you see in the mirror, the woman God designed, and the mother He has called you to be. But, most importantly, choose God.
